Mastitis is the single biggest threat to a dairy operation’s yield in Bangladesh. This article covers the basics: what to look for, how to prevent it, and when to intervene.
Spotting the signs
Watch for changes in milk consistency — clots, watery milk, blood. Visible udder swelling, heat, or pain on touch are clinical indicators. Cows producing significantly less than expected are candidates for sub-clinical mastitis screening.
Prevention is cheaper than treatment
Pre-milking hygiene, single-use towels, and dry-cow therapy at the end of lactation are the highest-impact interventions. Targeted supplements like Masti Free support udder immune function but are not a replacement for hygiene.
